Guelph Correctional Centre Grounds Tour

Service Description

Explore the rich history of the Guelph Correctional Centre (Ontario Reformatory) built in 1910 and abandoned in 2002. Meeting at the York Road entrance, we will walk the grounds (outside) and learn about the development and past of each of the existing buildings and notorious events which occurred on these grounds, including stories of previous inmates, residents and employees. Tours are approximately 1.5 hours in duration. Tour is OUTDOORS ONLY. Parking on York Street in designated areas (approximately 100ft west of the entrance on the south side of York Rd.) We will be offering tours by reservation only. To book your tour, click on the Book Now tab and reserve your space. Suggested donation $10-20 per person (cash or e-transfer to guelphurbex@gmail.com) *Notes: • We will be walking on uneven ground (route not wheelchair accessible) so please try to wear flat comfortable walking shoes • Tours will take place rain or shine, warm or cold (with the exception of extreme weather such as excessive heat or thunderstorm watches/warnings), so please check the weather in advance. If it may rain, do bring an umbrella and rain jacket (these will not be provided). It may also get cold and windy, so do wear layers. • There are no washroom facilities on site or directly nearby, so please do plan ahead. The closest washroom is in Tim Hortons at Victoria and York (204 Victoria Road South) • To keep the environment clean, if you bring any food or beverages with you (only non-alcoholic permitted), please bring your garbage back with you as there are no garbage disposal units on site. • You must stay in permitted areas. Anyone attempting to trespass in unauthorized zones (i.e. fenced areas) will be asked to leave the property and security will be alerted (grounds are under video surveillance) • All patrons must sign a release form prior to participating in the tour, which by booking online you agree to all of the terms and conditions set forth https://www.guelphurbex.com/blank-page • Tours are tentatively scheduled and can be subject to cancellation based on extreme weather.

Cancellation Policy

Advance payment for all tours (except for the daytime GCC Grounds tours) is required to confirm your reservation. To cancel or reschedule, please provide 12h notice via email at guelphurbex@gmail.com or text 519-362-5478. Tickets are non-refundable. If cancellation notice is not received within 12 hours of the scheduled tour time, the value of the ticket cannot be applied towards another tour. If you have reserved a tour of the GCC grounds, although we do not charge a fee, we do greatly appreciate tips/donations to make this tour possible. Thank you!
